I'm making a quilts for my kiddos. There are going to be roads, and I'd like them curved. But, I've never sewn nor CUT curves. How big should I cut it?

Example: I have a square piece that will be 3 inches X 3 inches sewn. The curve is 1.5 inches.

Any ideas are VERY much appreciated. TIA!

Are you talking like a drunkards path?

It depends on the design. Do you want your curvy roads to run throughout the top? Are all of your squares 3x3 or do they make a bigger square of say 12" block?

Lots of variables here. I need more info. Perhaps others can offer help. I just don't "see" it right now.

when stitching curved pieces put the convex peice on top (the out-going curve) the inner curve on the bottom- fold the pieces-crease the centers
match up the two out side edges, match the center crease, then distribute the rest evenly along the curve. stitch a few stitches, stop, raise the presser foot, pivot slightly- keep going.
curves are not hard- just take it slow at first--i'm sure there are some good tutorials that show pics

I think mainly I don't know how to cut the fabric. I've watched tutorials on how to sew them, but I don't know how big to cut each piece. Squares are easy because I can just add 1/4 inch. Is that what i do to both pieces of the curve? I'm so lost. =/

I have a quilt book called Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns by Leisure Arts. On page 255, there is a quilt pattern called Roads. It very much looks like roads, even more than the drunkards path. You may want to see if you can purchase this book or borrow it from the library.
