Our church ladies group make a quilt for our young women when they reach 18. We give the quilt to them in the spring. I've started asking what they like so i can work on them this winter. The 1st young lady likes Tealy Blue and Pink and likes more Modern than old fashion according to her Mom. the quilt will be twin size. I am looking for ideas for fabric and quilt patterns! Would batik be considered modern?

Maybe by modern she means "not" the old fashioned quilts made out of old clothes. Who knows these days with kids... they say one thing when they mean something totally different.. :)
Teal and pink in itself sounds modern to me! |
LOL, yes, batiks are considered "cool". Tealy blue and pink are very popular right now. I'm working on a design for my niece in those colors right now.

It sounds wonderful to me!

Batiks are definitely modern. The difficulty will be finding that color combination to blend. Unbelievably, the Walmart up here has some teal and brown (I'm using it in my Row Robin), so maybe you could check there. Their fabrics are much higher quality than they used to be.

A lot of the young people do like the more modern colors, batiks/tonals and contemporary patterns.
My kids are in their 20's and not into florals and most prints. I say as long as they will love and appreciate it? I will happily make them to order  and hopefully it may interest them into learning to quilt too :D:D:D |

Linear and modern looking, but fun too. :) Here's a great simple looking tutorial for it, just scroll down: http://sonnetofthemoon.blogspot.com/...ng%20tutorials I also like chocolate brown with the pink/teal combo. :) |
Fabrics by Amy Butler come in those colors and are very modern. You will see these color choices on lots of blogs by young quilters.

I would think just younger looking fabric, too.

For "modern" quilts for "young" people, geometric fabrics and quilt patterns work. Batiks are great. Applique, flowers, obvious quilt blocks are considered "traditional" and not "modern". Rectangles are a great contemporary choice for quilt patterns!

my daughter is 20, she has picked out the Batiks, purples and grays.....now I jut need to get started!

I love the idea your church has.My idea of an oldfashioned quilt might be the Dresden quilt pattern.I love the oldfashioned look and with pastel pinks and blues or teals could be just lovely...

My 12 year old quilts - We go every Month to a BOM. There are some really nice teenager colors out there. I do not know the names off hand, but look because at teh last meeting there was a shade of blue and other colors.
