What is the template used for? and what shape is it?

glad i could help. i bought my first fluorescent ruler at a quilt show and LOVE it! i wish i had bought more. my eyes are not that good, even with glasses/contacts, and these rulers are very easy to see what i need to see... on light and dark fabrics.
