My dad offered to cut me some templates out of plexi-glass for me. He told me to get together some paper versions of what I want and he will cut them out for me. As ,any as I NEED (want :)

My ? is this: If YOU had this opportunity what sizes/shapes would YOU want to have cut?

I am fairly new to quilting and want to take him up on this offer but need to know what are the most popular used sizes and shapes.

I would do 60° triangles for those quilts that have triangles sewn into hexagons. It wouldn't even matter what size as long as the sides are at least as long as you'd want the hexagons to be. Maybe if you like dresden plates, some of those. Tumblers are neat. Apple core shapes if you aren't afraid of curved piecing. I only use squares and rectangles and some triangles right now.

LaQuita, check some sites that offer quilt templates and you may get some idea as to what you might use when you can actually see them. To have someone offer to make them for you is really a wonderful thing. Pam

I bought 2 sets once. One set was squares sizes 1" to 6.5" (12 total because it included half inches) and the 2nd set was exactly the same but it was HST (12 total as well). They are really nice. The only drawback is they don't have the measurements on them like store bought rulers. I bet your dad could make extra money selling his templates!

(both marked corner to corner with a Sharpie so I'd have a 45 degree angle, and marked with 1/4" increments both horizontally and vertically.)

6.5" x 24" rectangle for cutting WOF strips (also marked in increments)

60 degree triangle

dresden plate (if you plan on doing any of those)

I agree with MOONRISE about the 'Square Up' size rulers...6 1/2" 12 1/2" - heck even 3 1/2 and 4 1/2.

I was suprised though at the cost of a sheet of plexiglass when I went to make a light box.

Now that's something you may want him to make as long as he's willing!

anything I could think of until he got so tired of doing it he said forget it!LOL. Go to your LQS, or Jo-Anns, wright down all the sizes of the rulers/templates and give him the list. Then make your dad the most awesome dinner he has ever had for being so sweet! :thumbup:
