Hello all;

I've got a Bernina 440 that's about 3 years old. Last week I noticed that if I sew forward, I have perfect tension, but if I sew in reverse, then either the top tension is far too tight or the bottom is far too loose (I can't honestly tell which.) I've tried playing with the tension on the bobbin, on the top, cleaning the machine out, rethreading, new needle, anything I can think of.

I'm far from home and the local dealer has a 3 week backlog, with no appointment system and no loaners, so if anyone has any further suggestions, I'd really appreciate them. It feels like it must be something simple I'm just missing, but I've never had this problem with any machine before, and nobody I've spoken to thus far has had the same problem.

Thank you ever so much in advance,
E.

Other than all the usual things to check for tension, I don't know why reverse would present any special problems. You could send a question to the Bernina internet site - http://www.berninausa.com/ Good luck finding a solution!

Usually if the thread is loose on the bottom side of the sewing, the top tension is loose. If the thread on the top is loose, it is the bobbin tension that is loose.--opposite to what we would think. Don't change everything at once. Rethread the top and check, rethread the bobbin and check.
