I used "Thangles" for the first time this weekend for finished 4inch HSTs. I love them, and they were so easy to use. For anyone new to them as I was, when they quote for "finished size" they mean after the block is sewn into the quilt. I can not believe how many websites sell them and only the Thangles site explains this fact. Maybe I have a lot to learn but when I talk about finished block, I am meaning prior to it being in the quilt. So I messed up at first and bought 4.5 inch Thangles, because I am working on a design that when the block is sewn into the quilt it measures 8 inches. I was pairing HSTs with my unfinished 4.5 inch 9 patches. Oh well the mistake sent me to the LQS where I spent more than I intended. So no bother I am happy.

I think it's the only way to do 1/2 square triangles. They come in so many different sizes

I used to use Thangles and loved loved loved it! Now I use a program called Print and Sew to make half and quarter square triangles--same as Thangles but you print them on your printer. This program makes sizes "before" you put them in your quilt--I learned the hard way too! :D It's better to do a test one just to make sure of the size. I can't make accurate half square triangles any other way. :-D

I also use the print and sew method, mine had 18 half squares on one sheet and within 10 min. they were done from start to finish

I am a Thangles fan, too, although I do use other methods, depending on how many are needed. The best part about Thangles, especially for new quilters, is there's no bias edges you have to be careful about. We all know how easily those will stretch, and that's not a hassle or frustration a new quilter needs.

I love them, too. They are a little messy when you tear out the paper, but I love the preciseness.
