For those who responded to my question last week about a sewing machine that I could step up to for around 2000,00, I've spent the last several days researching like crazy. I have narrowed down to Janome 6600 or 7700 and am making the 3 hour drive on Saturday to test drive those machines. They are a bit over my budget, but I think one of them will be worth it. I just wanted to thank you for your help and feedback. I can't even tell you how excited I am! I talked to the dealer on the phone, he answered all of my questions, even gave me references to call. Can't wait!

That is exciting! I would bring my own fabric for the test drive. If you do a lot of piecing, I would take a few patches to see how that goes in case you will need a special foot. Better to buy the foot now rather than another 6 hour round trip!

The 6600 should be under the $2000 mark ... not sure about the 7700.

You might want to check out the newer model, replacing those .... I think 8200 or 8900?
There's some good improvements in these newer models.

I had a 6600 ... and still love it, even though I have upgraded since.
It was my first deluxe machine, and got me so hooked, that before long, I went for an upgrade, which when buying it, I never thought I would happen. All because it was so good!

I went to my LQS to buy the Janome 7700. It was great, but the new 8900 was even better and only a couple hundred more $$. I bought the 8900 and I love it. I like that you can take off the accufeed foot when you want. The 7700 is awesome too. You won't be disappointed with either of them. Have fun shopping.

I keep hearing wonderful things about Juki's which aren't terribly expensive. They're just straight stitch machines, but if thats all you need, could be perfect.

I have a Juki that is not just a straight stitch machine and it's wonderful. For quilting though I always use my Janome 8900. Enjoy whichever one you end up with!
