Thanks to whoever posted that basting video

I believe it was a Sharon Schamber video.

She sandwiched the quilt using boards and basted it with thread.

In the video, she says thread basting is just as fast or faster than using pins.

She was right.

I basted some placemats her way and it was so much faster! It was more fun too.

The best part is I won't get stuck with pins when I quilt them.

:)

Her video is good for basting with thread after watching I also use the method. Join the club.

Funny, we're all different........I have tried it and found that it didn't suit me. I'm happier with my big table, my skewers and my pins.......and a bit of 505!

It depends on the project which method I use. I do like the school glue method for lots of projects-especially large ones. I do like the board method and thread basting for medium size project. In truth, I have ditched the pins because they add so much weight, get caught on everything and have to be removed at the most inconvenient time and place. They interfere greatly with free motion quilting. Yes, indeed, we are all different and like different methods.

I basted one quilt with pins. I will never do that again for anything over the size of a potholder. What a long drawn out hassle. I won't help someone pin baste either. I'm a Elmer's baster for everything.

You have to be careful to watch out that your basting thread doesn't get tangled with your foot when quilting by a DSM. Glad that it works for you. We all have to try different methods in the process of quilting to see what works best for each one of us.

Exactly what I do. I much, much prefer your way to thread basting.

Now you've got me curious... I'll have to go looking for the video post.

I just used Sharon's method for the first time. My husband was nuts when I said I had to go and buy some boards to use in my quilting. I can't believe how easy and smooth the whole process was.
