Theatre Throw Layout Question

Theatre Throw layout question: (Background of this project) . Each block represents a play my son was in (production, sound, lighting, lead character, supporting character.. he has pretty much been in all aspects within the school system and the community) . Making this for him before he moves into his dorm. I gave him complete creative control from color choices to the images themselves. Then I doctored up the images and went from there. Grant it, it is a bit dark for my taste, but it's his, so... there you go. It will have green sashing, black corner stones, a 10" black velvet outer border and green binding when finished. I will also be putting a hanging pocket on the back top.
My question is: Does this layout work(the order in which the plays were done) or should I spread out the lights & darks a bit more? The masks have to stay in the center. Thanks for any opinions. I will be asking my son (being it's his after he gets home from rehearsal.... Still would like yall's opinion though. TIA Layout #1 (chronological order) Layout #2 (Lights around center) Layout #3 (Darks around center) |
I like the first, in chronological order.
I like the second, with the darks in the corners.
I'm not much help.... I like all three layouts just fine.
I would go with chronological order not because of the layout but it will mean more to your son being in order.
My picks would be in this order 2,1,3. But the only one that matters is your son's choice-it will be beautiful and very special because of the memories and collaboration!
i vote for the first one... chronological
The first one gets my vote.
I like either two or three. The first doesn't look organized. The second & third are equally organized.
ask your son...........................
I agree! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh I would do it in order, like the first one. works better too.
I like the lights around the center.
My personal preference is #2 & #3 but I believe your son will have the finally word on the layout.
I like the third, but chronological is probably the way to go.
I believe you are over-thinking this. :) Any of the placements are equally fine.
I like layout #2 the best. It seems more balanced than the others.
I would follow chronological order. I also want to say that I think your idea is wonderful and this will be a treasure to the young man who gets it.
I think either layout one or two. Whichever one you find the most pleasing. I think he will love it no matter which way you lay it out.
Thank you all. Yes, I was & did make sure my son had the final say with no indication of my opinion. I have OCD so, you know how that goes, lol. I showed him all 3 options very closely and described the differences. His FINAL choice was chronological order.
I am currently cutting velvet cornerstones. If you have never worked with this, make sure you stabilize it before attempting to do accurate cuts. VERY stretchy stuff. This is not true velvet. It is the thinner kind that they make costumes, stage props, etc with. |

Quick pic so quality not clear, etc. but you get the idea.
Have batting to put behind that faux black velvet border. Backing to do (have to hide some uneven seems that I didn't intend) Finish quilting. Green binding. Now here is my problem. I didn't take notes on batting I was using. I only have enough to do the 2 sides. So I went and got some 80/20 and pray it's close. So I have 2 options here. 1). Use the new batting of 80/20 for all 4 sides in case it isn't the safe loft, etc. 2). Go ahead & use what I have for the sides and the new for top & bottom. Please help me decide. TIA Keep in mind... this quilt can NEVER be washed. So the effects of washing won't be in the finished quilt. Son plans to use as wall hanging (little big for that use, but ok). NOTE TO SELF: I do NOT like slippery fabrics! Yes, I used all the tricks of the trade, stabilized, walking foot, pin parallel galore!, yada yada... lol |
Wonderful keepsake for your boy!!
I like the last one. That is a great idea. I am saving all my son's theater t-shirts to make him a t-shirt quilt. Your son will really treasure this.
