Hello, I am not a quilter but my mother is. She is asking for a "barn quilt" to hang on the barn and I would like to make one for her. My brother was killed in a car accident a few months ago and I am wondering if there is a specific design that indicates "remembrance"? I tried looking online but couldn't find any info. Any help is appreciated, even if it the answer is "no, there is not." Thanks in advance.

I like the Friendship Star. I am sorry for your loss and hope the creating of this barn quilt will celebrate the life of this individual.

There is a alphabetical list of block names here. Not one for rememberance, but maybe you can find something that speaks to you of your brother. There is one called Brother Bear/Sister Sun. |
I'm sorry for the loss of your mother.

Look for a pattern that brings to mind your brother. So sorry for your loss. Blessings on you and your family at this time of sorrow.

haven't heard of a specific block titled remembrance. i looked through a historical pattern book & there were none titled "remembrance".
i have seen whole quilts with that title, but people choose names for their quilts as they would for a child or pet. may i suggest something dear to you/your mother's heart that would instantly serve as a reminder of him. so sorry for your unexpected loss... |
What kinds of things did he love? Maybe a block showing one or more of his favorite things.

So sorry for your loss.
With ordinary quilts (fabric...), often people will make memory quilts out of the shirts/dresses of a person who has passed, or with photos of the person. Perhaps you could use your brother's favorite colors, or choose a block name that reminds you & your mother of him? If you google "memory quilt", "memory quilt block" or "memory quilt block pattern" you'll find more ideas. |
Hello everyone - thank you so much for all the suggestions, links and information. This has helped me so much - I was unsure of where/how to start and now I feel like I can do this! Thank you all and happy holidays! Krystie
