Is there a difference between machine oils?
My Juki manual says to use "New Defrix Oil No. 1" but I can't find the small bottle that came with my machine . I do have several bottles of Singer Sewing Machine oil...can I use that?

No idea. I do know some machines are only oiled when they have a service and not in between.
This is a good question because I have purchased machine oil, just as machine oil not generic. |
lookie what i found...there was a discussion on this board about it. see: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...re-t42275.html i also searched the internet for it. i haven't looked at everything, but so far, i have not seen a reason to buy it except that it is the juki brand. also, there is a #2, and i don't know what the difference. you might want to check with the juki dealer or a sewing machine repair shop to see what they have to say about it. i would figure out why i would need to use that particular oil before i tried something else. could the juki oil be synthetic or mineral oil or other kind of oil? i don't know. it is best to check with someone who knows more about sewing machines.

Since my machine cost so much money, if it tells me to use their brand of oil - I do it. Not worth a couple dollars to buy a different oil that many not be the correct weight, etc.

Is your machine under warrenty? Companies have a way to test to see if another oil was used other than the one that is specified. There are chemical markers in the oil. You can void your warrenty by using an oil that is not the correct one, and then if you need a repair that is covered under the warrenty the company will not have to provide the repair. This is also true of cars.

I have my little bottle of Juki oil....I put a drop of it on a piece of plastic...and a drop of my Zoom Spout Sewing Machine Oil next to it...it looks the same and feels the same...
I do know that my Juki LOVES oil....she gets some about every 10 hours of sewing. I sew alot! I pulled out my book and it states...."use Defrix Oil #1 or similar". Love my Juki TL-98Q! |
