I would like to try something out and not needing the pattern for a whole quilt I would like to avoid to buy the pattern

Did you get to see it on tv? She gave all the measurements and whatnot on the program. I don't have a copy of the pattern - but I am pretty sure I saved the program if hubby will ever copy it off of the directvo unit...

You need or need to know how to duplicate, the ruler she uses and came with the pattern. I'll look later to see if the ruler is anything special. I have the book and ruler at my other house.
|
thanks a lot. I did only see a finished quilt on this board and I think it is strippieced. But you have to know the right angles to sew or to cut.................I think.

Granny http://www.quilterscache.com/N/NightandDayBlock.html Thank you for the link. |
thanks for the link Kristen.
@dakotamaid: is Eleanor Burns pattern stringpieced? |
she converted the traditional method to strip piecing. the ruler has the two angles required to cut from the strip sets.
|
There is no free pattern. You have to have the ruler to cut the strips and it is included with the book. I have the book and am presently working on a quilt.

There are great sales all the time on her website. The ruler and correct method how to use the ruler make the process more enjoyable.

You are so right Amma. Printed the papertemplates out yesterday but could not find an angle mesuring protractor in this house!? Will continue my search today

Connecting Threads has all their books 40% off right now, and they carry this book that comes with the ruler. They also have a DVD showing you how to make the quilt.

The book and ruler are well worth the money spent. If you go the Quilt in a day website, you can sometimes get a discount on the book/ruler and get the DVD. I've made several of Eleanor's Day & Night pattern quilts. They look different by using different colors and placement of colors. My first one didn't have enough contrast, so I recommend making sure there is a lot of contrast.
Here are two that look different by color placements. |

And how many degrees do those angles have............????
As she and her quilting buddy spent a long time working to convert this quilt from a template format to strip quilting and as she includes the ruler with the book I am sure she does this for accuracy as the ruler she developed is for this quilt specifically, not to mention ease. This is such a terrific quilt no matter what the color scheme. Amazon carries her product for about $10 off the list price so there are deals to pursue. I wish you luck and hope you post a picture when you finish your quilt |
Wow - talk about a difference of day and night. Sorry - couldn't help myself. Love your quilts the second one knocks my socks off - wonderful!!!

Eleanor Burns books are the only ones I buy anymore because she simplifies patterns.
My favorite is Stars For All Seasons. It is a single pattern that I picked up a Joanns with a coupon. Made two quilts from it so far and love this pattern. She makes blocks a little oversized then invented a square up ruler that squares up with one cut or at most two cuts. |
If I were to attempt to copy the ruler, I'd go to the Dollar Store and buy a school set from the Office Supply section. (The kit with a ruler, different angled triangles, a protractor and usually a compass). I would print out the paper pattern from Quilterscache, and I'd lay the right angle triangle from the Dollar Store over it. I'd mark the lines with tape. I'd use the paper pattern to measure the width of the strips of fabric, and I'd add 1/2 inch.
