I sell table linens in my gift retail store and it seems 42 and 70 inch lengths are the most popular.

I am glad you ask about that as I just bought a lot of Christmas fabrics to make runners for my DD and myself and was wondering what size to make as I am making up my own patterns. The answers here will be a big help.

I have made 3 different runners in 3 different sizes. I like the smallest one the least. We keep some things on our table all the time and they seem to cover up too much of the smallest one. The next one I make I will use the measurement of the table and subtract the amount I want not covered.

Thanks, this is the kind of input I'm looking for.

I make mine about 45" long. They float on the table

those of use with round tables appreciate a round, square or hexie table topper!

Runner Border width

I've finished piecing the center portion of a runner that measures 10" by approx. 66" and am ready to do the border. I'm planning some cool FMQ designs on the border and don't want it narrow. How wide is too wide do you think?

I just finished a 72" long table runner. It comes nearly to each end of the table because I wanted to cover a feature on the table top. I was afraid it would look funny, but it's perfect. I think there's a large range of lengths that would look good on the same table, but for sale I would make them in the 50 - 60" range. Mine has pointed ends that I like a lot. As an interior designer, I think the longer length makes the table and d.r. look larger.

Is there a standard size for table runner

I’ve done many craft fairs. All of my table runners were different with no two exactly alike. That said, no matter what size it was somebody always wanted it in a different size!

I like a runner that starts with 3 12" quilt blocks. It ends up around 42-45" long. That way it doesn't get in the way of place settings. If the table runner is merely decorative, then it can be longer. And I agree - people with round tables might like oval or round pieces for the centers of their tables.
