I fell in love with the Swoon quilt and block the first time I saw it. Then, I decided I could draft it myself, and I did. But, I ended up buying the pattern, and I am glad I bought it. The designer has worked out all the cutting guides, and gives you a clean, logical method for sewing it together. It is WELL worth the price!

Swoon is actually the Carpenter's Star. It's free online. We were talking about this on another thread, the link to the free pattern (if you don't already have it in a book) is http://sewandsoquilts.blogspot.com/2...ters-star.html

Thanks for posting this site, I had been looking for it! Got it bookmarked now!

Swoon is designed to use FQs. Great way to get that FQ stash reduced!

Here is a link for a smaller Swoon block. I made it but changed the fabric to how THE original Swoon pattern is laid out. Just used 2 colors plus Kona Snow for background.

some of us do not need exact patterns to piece. If you are able to draft patterns, purchasing is not required. New blocks are generally based in traditional blocks unless they're the modern/improv version which I definitely do not require patterns for. There are versions of the carpenter's star and variations of that old pattern for free online....the purchased pattern probably just made the portion that is the outline of the house portion divided to avoid any Y seams and might divide the diamond portion to make it easier for beginners to piece. It's not rocket science.
