When you do hand work such as applique what kind of thimble do you like to use????. Show me pics and sites. Looking for tight fit but also comfort!!!!

I do not like the feel of a thimble on my finger so I wear the Thimble Pad-it is just a little padded disk that sticks on your finger. They stick well (do NOT put lotion on your hand first) and you can reposition it if necessary. Thimble-It is similar-I have purchased it, but not tried it yet. I can't post pictures yet. But I use a leather thimble with a metal center,very comfy. You can find this at Joann's about $6.

I buy heavy rubber gloves. The kind used for washing dishes and just cut off a finger of the glove and roll it onto my finger. It works great for me.

I use the soft leather deekskin thimble I have gotten them at Ben Franklin and Joanns, they have blue knit ribbing, fit well and stay on. They do wear out but you can turn them around and use them for quite some time.

I haven't found anything yet that I can use for a long time. If I put something on my right hand to push needle , I tend to switch fingers without thinking about it. The under finger , I can't seem to fell it to get needle in right place.
I will try Joanns they have a big assortment, be good if I could find something :?

I use a leather thimble on both hands when quilting on a stationary frame. I learned long ago to quilt with both hands. I use a tan leather thimble on my right middle finger and a short black leather thimble on my left thumb. Before I became a quilter I never used a thimble. Now I need one just to sew on a button. Every time I find the kind I use in a quilt shop or other store I buy several. I have them all over the house and in all of my little quilting kits. THe brown ones have a little plastic disk in the tip that keeps the needle from peircing the leather and the black ones have a little metal disk. I can get about two bed size quilts out of a thimble. I have tried all differnt kinds over the years. It seems the more expensive they are the less I like using them. I was never able to use a metal one.

Me too! They get so soft and comfortable, and let your fingers breathe, too.

I use a finger from a rubber glove like littlehud said, except, I super-glue a small leather patch to it. Works great for me.
