I am with feline fanatic - Fear is a waste of energy. Goodness knows, there are real things to fear in life and fabric is very definitely not one of them. See something you like, just go for it.

Sometimes, you can make things bigger than they need to be and cut them down to size. Like half square triangles. Saved me from tearing my hair out.
After a good non-slip ruler, begin investing in different sized squares when they are on sale. These will help you easily cut your blocks to the correct size and help you square up your quilt. Start looking out for a tiny little container with a lid that you can use for a "sharps" container for used needles and cutting blades. Comes in handy. Be sure to fold your fabric to "straight of grain" before cutting. Leah Day has a good video on this. I'm another "pre-washer/dryer/iron/starch" person. Have fun! Watson |
learn to check to see if a design is printed on grain.
it is easier to tell from the wrong side. it it is printed off grain, no amount of blocking will get it to be on grain. |
Thank you ladies so kindly. I learn something new every time I read this thread, and it's making more sense as I review it.
