Things I should know about new machine?
 

So i just recently bought a Brother CS6000i computerized sewing machine and i should be getting it on Tuesday!:) I needed a new machine because my old one just isnt big enough and kind of hard to use, it also would be impossible to FMQ my king size project...needless to say im ecstatic about my first real nice sewing machine:) I want to know of anyone else that has this machine and how they like it, if there are any quirks that i need to know about it, or if they have any tips on how to get really good results or better ease of use on it=)

With almost any machine -

If the dealer offers lessons - take them!

One can also learn a lot if one reads the instruction book - assuming it's decently written, of course.

And then ask questions here for things that weren't included in the book.

Congratulations! I find the Brothers easy to operate and their instruction books pretty good. I hope you have many happy sewing hours with it!!

search to see if there is a Yahoo group related to the machine. If so, there will be lots of good info there.

My BIL girlfriend has one and really likes it, I have another computerized model, very easy to use. The LCD even tells you what foot to use so they are very user friendly, not very big harps so don't think it will be easy for you to FMQ a king size. I would get the brother PQ1500S for something like that, but it will be a good machine for piecing and FMQ small quilts with ease.

i have that machine. i love it! i did find that the 1/4" mark is about a thread on the generous side, so i keep the fabric just to the left of the mark. i don't really like the fmq foot, but that may be my vision that is the problem. congrats!!!

I had one ....lasted for about 2 years, then died a very painful death ....in the middle of fmq a king sized quilt!....cost too much to repair the PLASTIC PARTS, so I bought a used Janome....wish I had never seen the brother, such a waste of money.

Enjoy your machine. There will be pros and cons for every brand, none are perfect for everyone. Plastic parts are in every machine except the older ones. I have Brother, Singer, Janome and Bernina. Even had a Pfaff but gave it away. I like them all. Even now I don't care which one I sew on, they all sew a straight seam just fine.

My DD has had one for a couple years now. I have helped make several quilts on it. it is quiet, easy to use. Our latest project was a travel bag made from decorater fabric. it sewed thru multiple layers with ease. That kind of suprised me since it is a lightweight machine. If i needed a travel machine this would be one i would want.
