Thinking cross hatch quilting with black thread

Any other ideas for this one? I'm open for suggestions ...as long as they are airily simple ones! Thanks.

Your cross hatching idea isn't a bad one, but I'm thinking you've done such a nice job on your appliqué, if you're able to outline them with stitching in the ditch and then meander around them, it would set off your work nicely!

I would also crosshatch the background. You might rethink and use a shade of gray instead. Never hurts to audition thread colors before making a final choice. Cute pattern!

I would outline my appliqué first and then cross hatch behind them but not over them. Cute top!

I agree. Gray cross-hatching would be very nice. What a cute design!

I'm with Tartan on this one. Think how cute it will be on the back as well to have those appliques "show up" again!

Sharonquilts 01-26-2016 12:40 PM

Your quilt is too cute so I would not stitch over the appliques. I like Tartan's idea as well.

I like an off white thread for cross hatching. I think it would show up much better than black or gray.

What a cute quilt top! No quilting suggestion though, as you have plenty of great advice above.....

me too! It is an adorable quilt and leaving the Mickey pieces free of any quilting would be awesome. I'm not sure about the black either... I think it depends on how close your cross hatch stitches are going to be. Red might even be a fun thread against the black and gray.

I like the idea of gray for the quilting because it would make the quilting stand on its own but not overpower the pattern. I also would not quilt over the applique motifs. In fact one or more (an uneven number) echos around the appliques would be pretty.

I like the gray also. Cute quilt.

adorable quilt

that is too stinkin' cute!!!!

I like the you idea of cross hatch stitching but also thought what about writing out Mickey Mouse over and over? Okay, what really happened I started singing the Mickey Mouse Club theme song to myself, so you could do the song if you were so inclined. :-)
We are mega Mickey Mouse fans here and I am getting ready to make a Minnie Mouse quilt for a friend of ours and was wondering about how I will quilt it too.

Love the quilt and the cross hatch idea. Would not go over the applique pieces with the cross hatch.

Tatran is right on target with her advice. Post when finished.

I would probably do echo quilting on the appliqued blocks. Maybe 2 or 3 rows and then STID on those blocks. What might be fun would be to quilt a mickey head in the other blocks - or maybe just a couple big stars.

This is what I would do. I can't wait to see the finished product!

DOTTYMO 01-28-2016 11:23 PM

Again I would shadow the appliqué then crosshatch or a stipple over the rest

ragamuffin 01-29-2016 07:54 PM

Why not connect him with the quilting? Like drawing him in a puzzle. Just a thought. Great idea and quilt!
