This is a new idea for me, but I bet there are other quilters that have already thought of this. I went to Penny's Outlet with a friend who was looking for new drapes for her new home. I was browsing and found the sale bin full of drapes and bed skirts. They are all 100% cotton....the drapes were fully lined. I bought a pair of olive green drapes, a pair of floral drapes and a qn. size bed skirt. The bedskirt is 15" wide and it yielded about 4 yds in length, the drapes are 42" wide and 84"long (each panel) and yielded 4 yds. for each pair. I took out all the hems and pressed the fabric. All that for about $17.00. Would you consider that a bargin??

That's a HUGE bargain!! Wonderful way to re-purpose something. My youngest son (20) is really into recycling, re-using, etc. and told me how happy it made him to know that his quilt will be made of his old cotton shirts and blue jeans. So much better than landing in a landfill. I think that's one of the things that I like about the quilters I've been meeting on this board...we're not only creative...but very thrifty as well!

Great Find! Way to go!

Fantastic idea..... You got a great deal on this, and the fabric is sooooo pretty. I'm sure you are going to have alot of fun with these fabrics.

Good for you.

Looks and sounds like a bargin to me.
|
What a great and creative find!! :D:D:D
|
It looks like you got a VERY good deal!! Beautiful fabrics!

I think it's a wonderful deal. I always check the clearance aisle at Target, I found a sheet set for $8 which was more than enough for bathroom curtains and a border on a wallhanging. Plus I still have leftovers from the set.
|
That will sure make you a very inexpensive beautiful quilt.
|
Fantastic bargain! :-)

good job!!!

You got a great bargin!!

Good bargain and even better idea!
|
Great find!!! Very pretty fabrics! :)

Great find. Always keeping my eye out for such bargains. Bedskirts are wonderful for lots of repeats, etc. Ususally very cheap at thrift stores too.
|
Fantastic bargain!! I have bought a few bed skirts at thrift stores for a couple of dollars each and got lots of good usable cotton! A couple of them even had a heavy white cotton for the part that goes over the bed springs! I love to repurpose things like that!  :D

Great bargains! Thanks for the idea!

Great idea!! Quilter's have always been able to make their quilts from the things they have available.. We look at things with an eye that sees things differently.. like you.. a bed skirt turned quilting fabric.. Good job! You just never know where you'll find the right fabric!

I'd say yes it's a bargain and nice fabric. We catch heat from some of the folks who quilt here in our area becasue we use bedsheets for backing. I am a little weird and don't like to use a top sheet when I sleep. The sheets on the back of the quilt are soft and very durable. Think about how long a set of sheets last if you buy good ones. I have sheets from when I got married 29 years ago that are still in pretty good shape.

Thank you for sharing your creative shopping trip with us. All we have to do is think like our depression era parents did and not always run to the quilt shop every time we need fabric and think creatively like you did. Kudos to you.
