It's on the back of the quilt and allows the quilt to be hung.
You can put a dowel, or chain, or towel rod or wood slat through the sleeve. There are countless ways to hang it up. Not for a show, but my favorite is the method with magnets. Very cool! http://www.magnificentquilt.com/ A trip to your local DIY shop can accomplish this easily. |
No I use this same method. I do make mine about an inch and a half shorter than the width of the quilt so I can put the rod thru and have it rest on the nail with out seeing the nail or the rod, so it sort of floats on the wall. Jan

That is the way I do it when I am planning to put the quilt in a show. If I don't do it when putting the binding on, I sew a tube then hand stitch down both top and bottom of the sleeve.

I also use the directions put out by AQS. I sew my sleeve on with my top binding and then just hand sew the bottom edge to the quilt back. The important thing is to leave a little slack so the quilt hangs properly when the rod is inserted.

When I had one in the Arizona Quilt show thay sent detailed instructions on how to do it..I do sew the top raw edges into the binding and have a fold in bottom..that is sewed (by hand) to the quilt from the bottom of the pleat only ! I now use the corner triangle way for smaller wallhanging quilts also..which are great!!
