Those tied rolled up remnant bundles
Do any of the rest of you remember your Moms rolling up the leftovers from cutting out a garment and tying them with a long strip of leftover fabric?
Now I am wondering - whatever did Mom do with them all? She saved almost every little smidge of leftover fabric. I don't recall coming across many of them when we went through her stuff after she died. She made many lap quilts for nearby nursing homes, but she usually used fairly large pieces of fabric in those projects. |
my mother didn't sew.

*** My Mom used some of them for contrasting trim or pockets on our dresses. *** She also made panties to go under the dresses if there was a large enough scrap. *** |
I still see a lot of those remnants at estate sales.

My mom still does this!! She makes clothes for all the grandbabies and then ties up the little remnants and gives them to me. I didn't know anyone else tied up the remnants like that.

I'm still unrolling these bundles from Mom's stash. I don't ever remember her using them but when we wanted to make doll clothes or just play with fabric we were allowed to chose a bundle or two from the box were she kept them. When Mom passed away 20 years ago I inherited all her stash so when I feel nostalgic I grab a bundle and try to add it to current projects.

What a blast from the past! My mother and grandmother did this. I always thought that was how it was done. My Grandmother was always working on a quilt. I did not get the quilting bug til many, many years later. Thanks for the walk down memory lane :)

YES, my mama and my granny both did this, guess my mama still does as she still sews a little bit.....
|
Yep, mine did too. And in my clothing sewing days, so did I. Thanks for a dredging up a great memory!

My Mother sewed all her life as I have mentioned before. I still miss her sooo much! (Lost her in 2003) Every time I pull out some fabric rolled with a strip of selvedge or scrap, tied in a slip knot, it brings so many memories!
