For those who use a drop-in bobbin sewing machine
 

I sew in the basement and it can get pretty dark if the power goes off.
Therefore I've been keeping a small flashlight in my sewing room...just in case.
Now I have another use for that flashlight. I use it to check my bobbin thread.
I don't have to move my quilt out of the way. Just lift and peek with the flashlight.
I can sew till the last bit of thread without running out unless I forget to check. LOL
Just thought I'd share because I've read many times how some have trouble
seeing how much thread is left on their bobbin. Happy sewing.

Yep, my little flashlight is hanging from a command hook from the inside of my table! Wonder when the mfg'ers are going to put a light under the bed to shine into the bobbin area!

I love my brother 440 as it tells me when it is running out of thread. All my other machines keep sewing without warning so annoying.
I wish manufacturers would put all the features we use or need onto one machine, designed by quilters for quilters.

I have several small flashlights in my sewing cabinet. I have found several uses, but the most important use for me is cleaning the machine and the one drop only that I need on bobbin case. (630E Bernina artista) Every time I change the bobbin, I shine my little light in there to look for lint lizards!

Around our house, we have a few of those head bands with flash lights on them. We get them at an outdoor store. They're great for camping (if you need to move around at night). If you ever need a hands free spot light, they would work as well.

As for the bobbin, my machine tells me when it's getting low and I'll lift up whatever I'm doing and take a peek in to see how much is left. I can usually stitch to the end of whatever I'm doing at the moment, or at least find the best place to stop. I don't like to waste that last little bit of thread!

Mine doesn't tell me when it's getting low but I do try to keep an eye on it. And if it's getting low I'll just make sure to only piece until it's gone. If I'm quilting I will change the bobbin at the end of a run, even if it's not out, and then use the little bit left later when I'm piecing. I don't mind it suddenly running out when I'm piecing. I hate when it happens when I'm quilting.
