Please where is the rest of it.

maryv 06-01-2010 05:46 PM

marymay, I sent you a pm and hope this helps.

quiltingbea 06-01-2010 06:01 PM

How do you assemble it? It looks like something I would like to make.

finch 06-01-2010 06:06 PM

I sent you a pm Marymay with the instructions and fabric requirements. The 1 5/8 yrds. of neutral is what I sewed onto the charm squares.I cut my own,but I made mine white instead. You cut through all 4 fabrics. That makes one square as shown in the picture. 84 5x5 inch squares ,then from your 1 5/8 yards of neutral ,cut 11 strips 5"x width of fabric to sew to each piece of the flowered fabric.

finch 06-01-2010 06:09 PM

Just sew the top two together and then the bottom two. Then sew them all together to form a square and cut down to 81/4 inches. That will be the size of the block with the 4 pieces sewn together.

quiltingbea 06-01-2010 06:25 PM

Ok. That sounds easy enough for me.

finch 06-01-2010 06:32 PM

After you have 4 identical blocks before they are sewm together...trim 1/2 inch off the top of each block to make them 4.5" x 4.5" Press each block as you go. I sure hope this helps.

good job on the tutorials...helps when you showed it like you did and with precision instructions!

Thank you all. I was glad to help you.

GrammaNancy 06-02-2010 05:40 AM

Thank you, was wondering if you can get what you need out of the four blocks (2 solid, 2 print) and it looks like you can. Cannot wait to try it.

finch 06-02-2010 06:26 AM

Yes,the four blocks are sewn together to make one 8 1/4m inch block.

finch 06-02-2010 06:27 AM

Correction..I meant to say one 8 1/4 inch block

Bevanger 06-02-2010 10:40 AM

Thank You

Questions:

1) After the four light/dark units are sewn together, each of them is approximately 4.5 x 5 inches?

2) When I make the "pinwheel" - I line up the seams in the middle and the outside edges will be uneven?

3) I trim the sewn block to the proper size after it's assembled?

I noticed you are using squares with pinked edges. How/where do you make the seams? (I guess the "how" is - with a sewing machine, duh!) I don't know exactly how to word the question - how far from the edge of the pinking do you sew? I can never decide if the outermost V or the inner V or the middle of the V's is what to count as the "edge" of the fabric.

finch 06-02-2010 11:09 AM

Lay the four sections out and after yousew the white side to the printed side, you cut 1/2 inch off the top.You do this to each one before you sew all four of them together. Then after you get all 4 of them formed to make a block, you cut that block down to 8 1/4 inches. You sew the top two together and then the bottom two together and then you lay them face down on each other and sew straight across to join them together.Like a four patch.I just line them up and sew 1/4 inch seams even though they are crimped on the edges. I just set my pressure foot down and sew where the 1/4 inch seam is. Hope this helps. If not ask me again.

finch 06-02-2010 11:11 AM

Each little square will be 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches after you trim that 1/2 inch off the top of each one.

bearisgray 06-02-2010 11:16 AM

Why are they trimmed to 8-1/4 inch blocks? instead of leaving them at 8-1/2 inch blocks?

Because that's what the pattern says?

(I'm very "literal" when it comes to reading patterns. Which is why I'm a good "tester" for them.)

finch 06-02-2010 11:21 AM

Yes.That is what the patternsays, but I am going to do an 81/2 inch the next time. That would be alot easier. There are 42 blocks and I about went stir crazy trying to keep them at 81/4 inches.I am a new quilter and that was the worst part!

Usually, the first time I try to follow the directions. The next time (if I do it again) I usually will have figured out some adaptations that work better for me.

finch 06-02-2010 11:58 AM

Me too.I like the less complicated way until I get really good at it.

craftybear 06-02-2010 10:13 PM
