Thoughts on original or made to fit "feet"

Ladies, I need your thoughts and opinions. The small lever on my Aurora 440 QE Bernina walking foot tip broke. I am wanting to replace it but the cost is a bit prohibitive right now. I keep a close watch on eBay and see plenty that are selling what appears to be the exact thing but are also saying they are made to fit such and such models. Have any of you bought the "off brands" and have they been okay? I appreciate your thoughts on this.

I bought a generic walking foot at JoAnn's for my older Singer (not a vintage machine - just old, LOL). It seemed to work just fine, though I don't know about how well it would stand up to long use because I didn't use it that much before I bought my 440QE. Have you checked to see if your walking foot can be repaired?

While a lot of people buy generic walking feet for their machines and swear by them, because of the amount of precision necessary for a WF to work well (it's not like buying a generic ¼" foot), I'd go with the Bernina made one. Generics generally work better on older, simpler machines.

What does it do? Can you put the other plate on or still quilt with it as it is. Or super glue works wonders.

Unfortunately generic feet rarely fit berninas. Due to different fitting method.

It's already broke so anything you do to it now won't hurt. I would take it apart just to see how it is put together. Take pictures and save the parts. You may be able to use a bought used generic foot part to replace the part that was broken and still have the Bernina foot for your machine.
