Hey all, what do you think of this layout? Stick with just the middle blocks? Leave as is or add even more blocks? The little colours are my pins!

I don’t know what kind of look you’re going for, but I think this has a very float-y kind of look - Like your blocks are floating. If that’s not what you are trying to achieve, I’m sorry :(.

I like it as is. Might add just one more large block at bottom left, as odd numbers are more satisfying to me.
I think you're done! And it's a great quilt, too!! :)
That's very cool, Marion! You do great work!!!
Maybe scatter the small blocks at the top a little farther apart - love your concept and colors!
I'd probably use the same style blocks for all of them. Something seems off at first glance seeing the 2 different styles....I love the colors of the middle blocks....
I like it better without the "dice-shaped" blocks.
That is so cool! I Love the see-through blocks in the middle. Can you make all of them like that, even the little ones? I like the suggestions others have made--use an odd number, scatter the small ones up top a bit more. What an eye-catching quilt that would make a perfect wall hanging.
I love where you placed the blocks. Very nice. But then I saw that your grouping of 3D items seem to have the shadow at the back and the single placed blocks all had the shadow in the front. Personally, I think it will make a great conversation piece and make everyone really look at the quilt. Oops....looked at it again. It's only the blues that have the shadow in a different orientation. Regardless....I love it! If it were mine, I wouldn't change a thing.
What pattern are you using for the grouping of blocks? |
I love it, just the way it is!!

I love the floating blocks on top and bottom. Any way you could separate some of the middle blocks to add to the floating theme? Just a thought, because it is beautiful as is.
Like like the center blocks and might like grouping of the little blocks in the corners. Leave out the square plain blocks at the end of the stack. Just my ideas.
In the center the big blocks have the lightest fabric on the bottom but the ones floating in have it on the top. Can they be turned so that their lightest fabric is on the bottom and maybe add a little block that would fit in one or the other so they look like they are floating in to match up with the others? I hope that is clear.

Lots of visual interest in your project. I like the arrangement your have. I know you can change it in lots of ways (comments above). Just leave it for a few days and see how it mellows for you.
It's Art! It's not abut following symmetry rules. If the artist is pleased, it is done. I find it fascinating just as it is.
I love it! I grabs my eyes and makes me look again. It's bold and bright and happy. This type of design is something I'd like to learn.
It looks great the way it is...the small blocks at the top and moving to large blocks at the bottom is perfect!
I think it's great just as it is. Wouldn't change a thing.
Those look so complicated. Love the colors and the pattern. I would tumble a few more along the sides too. Like when a child tumbles his building blocks.
Fun! |
Thanks all ... they are actually pretty easy ... I have lots of left over fabric so might make some more ... will leave it as is for a day or two.
There was no pattern that I was following, just had extra blocks that I made for a previous quilt, and am trying to use them up. Have to finish quilting my dance of the dragonflies quilt ... it's been sitting there for about 2 months now! |
Great job!
I agree with Inov8r... it is an art piece with no right or wrong way to arrange. I do see a tiny boo boo tho. The center left aqua block needs to be turned so it’s darks are on the left side like the other blocks. Nice work!
I would like to see a little something in the black areas. Maybe take some of the small ones and push them over there...
Sorry, no help here....but it sure is pretty!
I actually like the pins too!! Like everything is orbiting!
I love it the way it is. Beautiful work.
What a great 'left-overs' wall hanging! Great design and I like it just the way it is.

First of all, I think your blocks are stunning! These are the leftovers?! Amazing. What size do you want your piece? Are you going to use it as a wall hanging? Where? I am wondering if you want it wider so it is more in proportion. It seems long and skinny to my eyes but then I know nothing except I recognize perfection when I see it!
I like it. I second the motion to add a third block at the bottom, none of them 'centered'. It really pops!
