I am a semi-newbie to long-arm quilting. To date, I've (mostly) exclusively used Superior King Tut threads.....they are wonderful in performance, dependability, and looks....and thety are pricey.......however, someone told me about Essential Thread on Connecting Threads.com. The price is certainly impressive!...but I've always been told "you get what you pay for". Any opinions, suggestions, advice is MOST appreciated.

My suggestion is 'if it ain't broken, don't fix it'. :)
We always want to get something less expensive and then it's not worth the frustration. If you have good luck with what you are using, keep using it. Just my opinion.

My Tin Lizzie is pretty happy with the Essential threads cotton.

I tried one cone of the essential thread marketed for LA. I was very glad when the thread was used up, I was not crazy about it at all and will not reorder. No comparison to King Tut. Essential's cotton thread is ok but some is very linty. I will not order any more thread from Essential threads unless it is YLI silk.

I like Isacord embroidery thread in my LA. I took a class with Karen McTavish in April and she recommends Glide thread from bobbincentral.com. I bought several cones but have not had an opportunity to try it yet. But I did try some of their prewound bobbins and they were great. I will most definitely be ordering more of those.

I have used Superior's Rainbows as well. Beautiful thread but it is very fussy about tension and will break on you until you get the tension set right for it. Highlights is the same way. Both are beautiful threads though and once you get your tension adjusted (very low on both top and bobbin) they quilt beautifully.

I've been using the Connecting Threads Essential Pro (it's 70/3) and loving it. My machine (Pfaff 18.8) loves it too!

I was not impressed with the thread from Connecting Threads at all. LINTY and knubby and no thanks..

i'm a long-armer who's been very happy with the threads from connecting threads for over a year now- they have become my favorite source for all my thread needs.

Really. When I got my Tin Lizzie in April, I was told to use only King Tut thread. The dealer was not a King /tut dealer so I wondered. But, like someone else said...If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Maybe once I am alot more confident, I'll try a different thread. I use Essential in my domestic, but, find it very linty. Do you use cotton Essentials in you TL or polyester?

I have a Nolting Pro Series 24 and I use Essentials from Connecting Threads. I use the polyester for larger quilts and the cotton on baby quilts and I've not had any problems with it.
I do have a couple of cones of Glide but haven't had an opportunity to use it as of yet.

I took a 'leap' and ordered some Essentials just to try and make a decision on whether to use it on a regular basis. I am very happy w/King Tut, but it is pricey; will report back on Essentials in a couple of weeks when I get an opportunity to put it to the real test. Thanks for all your input.
