Which thread color??

I am going to LA a quilt that is all over Hawaii prints orange, green,.and some purple,.well you get the picture.. the backing is royal blue with lighter blue bubbles.

question: Do I go with orange to match the top or maybe a purple to blend better with the back.??

royal blue in the bobbin and maybe orange so it shows on top.

I am new to LA and I have never used different colors. My teacher to all use the same top and bobbin.. I will try Linnie's suggestion on a small sample to see if it will work..

I'd probably try a variegated purple.

I do so love the varigateds. So very yummy.

I'd go with a varigated thread not sure of colour would need to audition them.

As a longarmer, I first ask the maker if they want the quilting to stand out or the quilt pattern. This helps me suggest thread colors. If you want the quilting to show variegated or orange/purple (the color you want to dominate). If you want the pattern/fabric to stand out I would go light maybe white and back light blue to match the bubbles. This is one of the hardest decisions for most of the ladies I quilt for.

I think any of the colors would be pretty. I think I would use a different color then what is in the quilt. Try a lime green or bright yellow. The statement to use the same color in top and bobbin is so quilt police!

I quilt on my Bernina so I usually lay various threads over the top like doodling to see what looks the best. With FMQ, you are bound to get some bobbin occasional to pop up so I always try keep my top thread and bottom thread very close the same. I assume with a stitch regulator that you don't have this problem. I always pick my backing to coordinate with my top. Good Luck. Please post a photo when you are finished.
