I have a Janome machine. My thread cutter is not cutting thread at all and I wondered if you can replace those. Are there blades in there that can be replaced?

I have a 2 wk old Janome and I love the thread cutter, I'm sure it's a replaceable blade but probably a service tech will have to change it.

I would think that it would be replaceable.

My instruction booklet doesn't mention that part at all....!!!! Probably something they have to do in the shop.

I have a viking and mine can be replaced. It had to send it out to be serviced though.

You can call the Janome headquarters and ask them. Their contact numbers link is:

Yes, but I think they have to be done when you have it serviced.

It could be there is a piece of lint or thread caught up in there causing the cutter not to work. Clean it out really good and see if that works. That is what was causing mine not to work.

Yes your local Janome dealer will have the replacement cutters. Its not all that expensive to replace. Before doing that run some waxed dental floss through yours and make sure its just not a piece of lint that is clogging it.

Excellent tip!

If you look at the cutter blade it's easy to see it can be replaced. My blade (Brother) comes out and pops back in. At Paducah quilt show the dealer gave me extra blades for it free. He was the district rep and said none of his dealers should charge one of their machine owners for a new blade, it should be a courtesy for buying the machine and replaced for free when the machine is serviced.

I want to thank all of you great folks who came forward with suggestions. I did check it for caught thread and there appeared to be some in there so that may have solved the problem. If not, then it's due for a service call soon.

Thanks again

i was told to take an old tooth brush to mine first

I also have a Janome. When my thread cutter isn't working, it is usually cuz some random snippet of thread or dust bunny got 'lost' in it. So I really clean out my machine every time I rethread the bobbin.

If that doesn't work...take it in for a servicing. They'll fix it for you.

I have a 4800 Janome and they can be replaced at a very small price. When I took mine in for a tune-up (first time I did it and it was 5 years old!) he automatically replaced it. I find it very handy in clicking threads.

I have a Jamome 6500 and the thread cutter has never worked properly. It knots the thread on the back of the next piece that I dew. I have talked to Janome and they can't seem to be able to tell me what's wrong. The dealer's 6600 did the same thing. I never use the thread cutter, I have enough to rip out without having to do it because the machine has done it.
