thread for denim rag quilts?
1 Attachment(s)
I know many of you have made denim quilts, did you use a stronger thread than our normal YLI or Gutterman etc?
I wanted to use a copper/red/orange like on denim jeans but the more I look the confuseder I get? There is a seam to sew the circles together, then the second seam which is in effect the quilting which will show a little under the ragging, and on the back. MaryQuilts posted this one, and I've seen other posts but no mention of thread https://www.quiltingboard.com/6665974-post10.html |
I'm making a quilt with denim right now. I bought a cone of polyester thread (Glide, Navy, No. 40 - I think that this last is the weight). I'll also use this thread for making 40-lb bird seed bags into grocery totes. Previously, I've used Coats and Clarks Dual Duty. I use 50-wt Aurifil for piecing, but weight of Aurifil is definitely not a strong enough thread for denim quilts because (the ones I've made) are basically quilt-as-you-go and don't have overall quilting to protect the seams.

my thoughts exactally re: our standard piecing thread. I was concerned about poly thread as in the past I experienced it melting, but I won't be irioning my piecing will I? I have a couple spools of 30 and 40 weight quilting thread, I could use those up couldn't I? top and bobbin both.
