Can someone explain the difference between YLI Mako 50/2 and connecting Threads Essential 50/3 thread? Which one do you like, and why? I have some YLI Mako 50/2, and am considering ordering some essential threads..I know nothing about thread...please help me understand. I want to use it on my Pfaff machine 7570 ( really old....26 years). Also, what does the /2 or /3 mean?

I understand that 50/3 would be stronger than 50/2 but this is what I use it means the strands twisted together also just what I understand about it I am not by any means an authority on threads

I don't know that much either, but I know what I like and what works for me. I use Connecting Threads Essential and I love it and the price! I have a Bernina.

visit the website of 'Superior Threads' they have free charts you can print off telling you what needles to use with what threads, what different threads are good for, differences in types, weights, fibers of threads- they are a valuable resource. I use a lot of threads from Connecting threads- I like most of them just fine- I like YLI silk threads- I haven't tried the one you've been using- I have nothing local selling YLI threads. if i'm not piecing with a connecting threads thread I am generally using aurifil or silk. the 2 you are 'comparing' are both 50 wt threads- just one has 2 strands twisted together, the other has 3 strands

The 50 is the weight of the thread, the 2 or 3 is the number of strands/ply...the 3 ply would have more strength than the 2 ply. I haven't used the YLI Mako thread, but have used other YLI threads and have always had good luck with them. I won a spool of the thread from Connecting Threads from my guild once, and loved it, so did order some more colors.

patchsamkim is right on with her explaination. I have not used YLI but have used Connecting thread and it is good thread.

Essential Pro is 70wt 3 ply poly
The Pro is excellent for bobbins when piecing. It adds less bulk to the seam. There is a lot to know about thread. I use to think just pick a color and that was all. The best education you can get about thread is on Superior Thread website. The DVD of Thread Therapy has all the info you need to be a thread expert.
