Thread for Janome 7700

I recently purchased a Janome 7700 and was told to only use 100% cotton thread. Do I have to use exclusively 100% cotton or can I use any of the 30+ spools of duel duty thread that I used on my previous machine?

I have the 7700. I've used both cotton and polyester with no problem. I was told to use only Janome brand needles but there was no mention of thread type. Be sure to clean the bobbin area regularly to remove lint.

Janome needles are just Organ needles re packaged for Janome.

Many other Janome dealers will tell you there is no problem with using other thread types .... and needles!

I do not have a J7700, but did have a 6600, a similar machine of the same vintage.
My dealer had a whole array of threads that they sold, and recommended for the machine.
Cottons, polys, rayons and blends.

Likewise, they never pushed Janome brand needles.
More so, recommended Schmeck needles because of the broad assortment of sizes/types available.

There are a lot more sizes/types of needles out there than Janome offers.
Does it not make sense to use the "right" one for the job it will be doing.
The important part is that it be a quality brand ...

i use lots of different threads with my janome

I too have used every thread imaginable on my multiple Janomes.

The only thread I've ever had an issue with on my 7700 is Superior SoFine. Lots of breakage and tension issues. It loves Aurifil 50/3 and Isacord poly. It will sew fine with Masterpiece but the stitching looks a lot better with the Aurifil.

Needles - I'm using some Schmetz ones I bought more than 25 years ago (yikes!) - I happened to stock up back then. Again, had trouble with Superior titanium.

I have the Janome 3160, 6600, and the 15000. I use all kinds of thread, (even serger thread in a pinch) and have had no issues whatsoever. I use everything from top of the line thread like Aurofil to basic coats and clark dual duty it all depends on what I am making and the color I need. You should choose your thread based on what you are stitching. Here is a link that tells you almost all you would want to know about thread:

Janome machines are workhorses and from my experience and that of my friends who own one, it takes a lot to mess them up. As for needles I generally use Organ but have used Schmetz. I buy in bulk and change them often. Again the size of needle is also based on what you are sewing.
Enjoy your machine!

I'll be interested tolerance how you get on. I've got a 7700 which, I'm ashamed to say, has had very little use in the 4 or so years I've had it. I've resolved that that is going to change, and in the next few weeks I plan to learn to use it properly. My older Janome (4800) HATES cotton quilting thread. YLI and Superior King Tut both jam all the time. It purrs along with the synthetic Superior threads such as Rainbows. It's going to be interesting to see if I'll be able to use up my stock of King Tut on the 7700.

HI I am new to the forum and also have just bought a Janome 7700QCP second hand in fabulous condition. I have used different threads with no hassles. AND I use the schmetz needles - they were also given to me by the Janome shop where I bought my Janome from.
