I think there are several main reasons for thread breakage.
1. cheap thread
2. jerky moving in FMQ
3. wrong settings for tension and feed.
4. machine not adequately cleaned and/or oiled
5. Burr on needle, bobbin case or pressure foot.
6. Old needle
7. It wants the day off for no apparent reason.

I know I have had to deal with all of these more than once.

Agreed!!! I have the 830 and it doesn't act like that at all!

Me too! No problems here either. Hope you get it figured out soon.

Is your presser foot down?

Does your thread break within the first couple of stitches, or can you sew a few inches or more before it breaks?
Where exactly along it's route is it breaking? Does it seem to have frayed first(and where), or is it a clean break?

What size needle are you using? If quilting, try a 14. Make sure it is a sharp needle.

I'm so happy to find someone else who has an 830. I have a call in to my dealer to see what is up with the thread breaking. I know these machines are wonderful. I love everything about it except this problem. I still don't know all there is to know, probably never will because it does so much.
