I bought a video and a book at a Sew and Quilt Expo last Friday and now I am off to the store to buy a bunch of threads and such to get going. I am worried that I will lose all will-power when I get there and go crazy. I have been trying hard to limit myself to essentials only, but this is a totally new endeavor, so I am going to really have to work hard at limiting myself to what I need to get started and not go overboard.
A few months ago I took a cake decorating class, which turned into two more cake decorating classes and probably $400.00 worth of supplies sitting up in my pantry in a huge plastic storage container... for the next time I get a wild hair to bake and decorate a cake.
I am worried that this will end up being another flash in the pan hobby. Have any of you done thread painting? I am posting a picture of the book. I would like to know if others have done this so I know if it is worth investing time and money into, or have others found it less than what is seems.

I decided to hold off going to Jo-Anns right now. I need to finish my chicken blocks and get a few other projects done first before starting a new challenge. I am still interested in what others have to say about thread painting, but I am going to be patient and wait until the next sale on thread.

I havent done it but Ive been reading on it and after I learn to quilt, Im gone to try some of these things Ive been reading about, you know fabric painting, photo fabric all that wonderful things you see on the free lessons.

I took a two day class on thread embellishment, different I guess because you don't cover a whole area. I enjoyed the class but never did finish the project. Maybe someday.

Are you using your sewing machine or a long arm machine? I love doing this on my long arm, sitting down and using micro handles. It is very relaxing, and I am addicted to thread!! I have used everything from 100 wt. silk to 12 wt. Sulky thread. Have fun, start with something small and go for it!

I have put off getting an embroidery machine because I don't like that a machine does all the work and I just sit back and watch. So, I am pretty excited about this type of work because it feels like I am actually doing the creating. I will feel like it really is my work when I am done. However, I need hours and hours to get going on it, not just a few minutes here and there. So, until I have time to commit, I am not going to get the supplies yet. (I will do it on my regular machine... not a long arm.)

It looks very tempting, but not enough time or money to invest!
