I'm a little confused about the term "thread Painting". (I don't have an embroidery machine and know nothing about them.) So is thread painting done free motion or is it done some way with an embroidery machine.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Thread painting can be done on any machine that does a straight stitch, & a zig-zag stitch., and a free motion ability. You just cover a design in thread, similar to covering a design with paint, only use thread. You can do shading, high lights, whatever. Look carefully at the object you intend to thread paint, how many colors do you see, where on the object do you see them? That's the number of colors of thread you'll need. Just go back and forth with the thread till you have it all covered in color. Be sure to use a good stabilizer on the back of the fabric since it will be heavily stitched. There's tons of info online & many books on this topic. Good luck

your needle with thread[either hand or machine]becoms the crayon so you lay down the colour+shading to form the picture
