Thread for piecing
What is your favorite cone thread that you use for piecing? Is it cotton or polyester? Why that brand , and where do you purchase it?

i use a cotton blind stitch thread from WAWAK.
https://www.wawak.com/Thread/Thread-...ds/?sku=GCT1BE it's nice and thin. Tex 21 (approximately 60 wt) virtually lint free. reasonably priced. a cone will last me for years. :) |
Aurifil 50 wt, cotton. Craftsy/Bluprint used to sell it; not sure where I'll buy it when I run out.

I don't care about the brand. I like Egyptian Long Stable cotton 50 wt or higher for piecing. Lots of good brands to choose from like Superior, Aurifil, Cotton and Steel, and Sulky. The brand I have the most in large cones is Masterpiece by
Superior. Superior changed Masterpiece from 2 ply to 3 ply making it stronger. Aurifil is 2 ply. I was told not to use glaze finish thread in my sewing machine. |
I use Guterman on the cone. The price is pretty good when you buy it that way. United Notions has had it back-ordered for a few months. I'm hoping we'll be able to get it again, in March. It's 50 wt, 3 strands.
If I could afford it, I'd use Mettler Silk finish all the time. It's also 50 wt, 3 strands, but it's been "gassed" to singe off the fuzzies -- like Aurifil. |
I also use Aurafil 50 wt on cones...I usually get one or two on sale at quilt shows.
|
I use aurifil for almost all of my piecing and quilting.
|
I use Aurifil too, as it seems to help with the "scant 1/4" seam. I use it for piecing, and Connecting Threads cotton/poly for my quilting.

I find thread very confusing. There are so many!
I mostly use Aurifil, Missouri Star and Bluprint. I believe they are 50 wt. |
