What is better for piecing, cotton or polyester thread? Most of my piecing is done with Coats & Clark thread (can't remember if it is cotton or polyester). I am looking at possibly purchasing some cone thread from Connecting Threads.
Thanks, |
I use both, depends on what I can find the best deals on :D:D:D
The new polyester threads don't cut the fabric like the older ones did. |
I love using Masterpiece!

i buy all my threads (well except my silks) from connecting threads- they are all wonderful
there are (traditionalists) who will tell you to never use anything but cotton thread- it is sad they are so (narrow minded) they will not even try the wonderful new threads on the scene. try every thread you can find- in every color===there is so much out there to offer! that being said- i have 3 different machines- each has it's own personality---and one is crazy picky about the threads i can use i used to go to quilt shows and buy $18 cones of thread from venders only to get them home and find the thread would not work in my machine---i stopped buying expensive thread that seems to be expensive because it says quilting somewhere---i hate paying for lables and packaging! i can not use coats & clark double duty threads in any of my machines- i can not use YLI verigated threads in one of my machines--- when i tried the connecting threads thread i ordered on spool-just to see- it was wonderful- and i started buyinng sets---getting a good color selection built up now :) |
I use both, and I like the Essentials thread from Connecting Threads.

I love Connecting Threads and Superior threads. Both have some great deals and options.
As for cotton vs polyester - I use a variety including silk and metallics. It all depends on the project, what I'm looking for in color & texture and the technique. So needless to say "It's time to play". As much as we all enjoy the search for the perfect fabric, all of the other things we do to make these gorgeous quilts are equally important and an adventure to enjoy. So step outside your comfort zone and try some of the other threads. |
piece with cotton, quilt with whatever your heart desires!
i use connecting threads,essential cones,lasts forever! http://www.connectingthreads.com/thr...Thread--600905 and gutterman,mostly. i have others of course,masterpiece,aurifil, bottomline. |
I use superior so fine to piece my quilts (top and bobbin). Love the way it sews! I use mettler or king tut in the top and bottom line in the bobbin when I quilt.
