Thread - shelf life?
I am looking at some embroidery thread (Robison Anton) which I can get a bit of a deal on if I buy in bulk - 10 or more spools.
Since the spools are 8000 meters (I think) - I need to know if they will degrade with storage (out of heat and out of daylight etc). As this is rayon vs cotton, I have no idea! Any thoughts? |
I have some that is 9 years old from when I got my first embroidery machine and it still stitches fine so I would say yes.....I do keep it in drawers out of the light.

Rayon is a "natural" fiber and will break down eventually over time. I have had some Rayon thread that is still in good condition after 15 years... Much depends on manufacture the fiber length used to make the thread and conditions it is stored in.

I have some that is at least15 years old. It worked great on my Christmas ornaments this year. I am almost out of the silver and will by more. Love the sheen and stability. Have fun chosing the colors to use.

I also have some thread that is old & it is still good. I do store it in a box out of the light also!!
:D :D :D :D |
I have thread that is old old and its still good. They also tell me that if you put it in the freezer it will rejuvinate and stay stronger longer.

I have some really old thread and it is still fine. Some newer thread I have bought has thin places in it and breaks easily.

I think I had a typo there - I think the spools are closer to 5000 meters (not 8000). I think I will get some of this when I go to the store.
Thanks for the responses! |
