thread and twin needle for stainglass wall hanging
 

Hello~
I'm in the process of making a stainglass wall hanging using the black 1/4" clover fusible bias tape for the lead lines. Will also be my first time using a twin needle. The pattern says to use black Sew Bob thread. I found out this is also called YLI lingerie thread which I can only find online in 1200 yd spools. I know I need to thread 2 spools using the twin needle, but do I need to buy 2 spools or can I get by with buying 1 spool? Not exactly sure how I would wind the thread onto another spool so I have 2. I'm thinking it might be easier and cheaper in the long run to just buy 2 spools and have it for life. Thoughts?

you could always wind thread onto a bobbin then use the bobbin as the 2nd spool of thread. I've done lots of stained glass projects- never used anything special for the thread- I use what ever black thread I have on hand- works just fine. (its kind of like the recipe calling for Idaho potatoes---Michigan potatoes work just fine. :)

I actually preferred sewing twice down the bias tape, whether homemade or store bought. I didn't like the need for stabilizer with the double needle. Or it seemed like it needed more than I wanted to tend with.

Hint: sometimes a really dark grey works better than black. Not always, but sometimes.

It's possible to wind some thread on a bobbin and use it for one of the needles. I'm not good at guessing how much thread I need so I can't tell you if one spool is enough.

If your machine has a 9mm stitch, you can just carefully zigzag over the "leading"

We did that with Celtic quilts in class. Otherwise, use a bobbin.

i used regular sewing thread with mine and it worked fine. just don't try it with the invisible thread. that did not work well.

I actually stopped sewing down my leading with the twin needle years ago- now I adjust my zigzag to the correct size & just zigzag it down.
