threads
I have a WIP that I now have the hand quilting of the body of the quilt finished but am running out of the spool of hand quilting thread in the matching color. I want to put a simple design in the narrow border but I'm sure there isn't enough thread on that spool. We are in the "arctic freeze" zone for a few days so going out to purchase another spool of this particular thread is not gonna happen! The present choices are either regular sewing thread (I sometimes use for hand quilting) or I found a spool of machine quilting thread --both are appropriate color. I welcome opinions. I could wait until I can get to a store to purchase another spool of hand quilting thread but I'd sure like to finish this while the mojo is working to get it done though. What say you?

I've never used regular thread for hand quilting but if you have and had good luck I don't see why you couldn't use it or the border.
We're having frosty temps too! |
I think I would opt for the machine quilting thread. Usually both (hand quilting thread and machine quilting thread) are a heavier weight than regular sewing thread. Like Susie QOH I have never used regular thread for hand quilting. I have for machine quilting.

Another vote for the machine quilting thread as it should be stronger then regular thread.

I'm in the "use the machine quilting thread" camp ..... :o I have used machine quilting thread for my hand quilting and really I don't see or feel any difference.

Just be sure you run the thread through some conditioner and sew away!

I vote for machine quilting thread
