Hi! I purchased a bag of misc. fabric at a thrift store today for $3.00. Some pieces are nice but there about 30 or more misc. pieces of fabric cut into bandana size pieces. There are some in Christmas, Halloween, fall, dog, and baby themes. Very strange mixture of fabrics. I am not sure what to do with these...Any ideas? I must do something with these right? Waste not want more :)...

Make a scrappy quilt. Maybe table runners/wall hangings with the holiday fabrics. Maybe some pot holders for Christmas.
|
it would make a great quilt top for Project Linus, children love variety.
|
Go to Quiltville.com Bonnie Hunters site, and read about her method of making scrappy quilts and controlling her stash. I started doing this, her book Leaders and Enders, I have enjoyed, and have 3 or 4 quilts in there I want to make.

bandana sized cuts???...fat quarters maybe?
|
Do you have any ideas for patterns that might work with these triangle cuts? I am at a loss but my creative juices are flowing with no where to go...
|
OH!! Dah...Now I get it, bandana as is triangle peices...some days I just have to laugh at myself. I would be the last person to ask Sewblessed as I am in a major slump for creative anything. But if I had found it I would sort by seasons and type and add to the ever expanding stash of fabric that I have. Can you post the sizes of the triangles? That might help.

Sounds like from a pet groomer they always put these on my dogs when I pick them up. They have different sizes also, small, med and large dogs. Start of a crazy quilt maybe?
|
make them all the same size triangles and make a triangle quilt

Do you by any chance have an embroidery machine,if you do you could embroider some blocks to go with the themed fabric and make a walling to decorate for that holiday

The first thing I'd do with it is to wash the fabric. Smaller pieces might need to be in a mesh bag. You never know where some of this fabric has come from. Wash, wash, wash.
|
You could do something like this [url]http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-151952-1.htm[url]
|
If you don't want to fool with them, and if they are dog bandanas, you could donate forward to a shelter or pet rescue to fancy up the pooches on adoption days.

I really like the idea of donating them to a pet shelter. If you have a serger then you can put a rolled edge on them in nothing flat, no effort at all. The added effect of a bandana on a dog up for adoption might help get the dog adopted and save its life. And wouldn't that make you feel great!

I love scrappy quilts.

Using pinking shears is faster. Also, my dogs usually have them off within a day anyway.

i bet it came from a dog groomer they often put fabric bandanas on the dogs they groom.
great for scrappy quilts though. it might not even be that noticable that theyre seasonal either in small pieces i once used xmas fabric in a regular quilt and no one realised it but me cause the pieces were small. carla |
Maybe the person who had these and cut them into bandana size had intended to use them for a head scarf for work.
I worked in a cannery and had many scarfs for seasons. I have a friend from work and she had a scarf to match every outfit she wore plus more. She had over 300 scarfs of all kinds. I made myself scarfs from time to time and made some for this friend also. When she was retiring she had me use some of her favorite scarfs to make a quilt then at her retirement part she had her fellow work mates sign the back of the quilt. She paid me well for making it....... |
Since it sounds like they may have been cut up for bandanas , how about donating them to your local animal shelter or humane society. I managed a shelter for 20 years and put bandanas on all the dogs that got adopted. Good luck!

Make a confetti wall hanging. Go to you tube and look up Alex Anderson with a person instructing this technique.
|
An I spy quilt would be good with this type of material.

Find a solid to match up with the triangle and then piece them all together for an all season scrappy! |
Use for a scrappy quilt for charity. They always turn out nice.
|
You could use the triangle pieces for dogs. Perhaps your local vet would sell them in the office. I know of one lady who made them for an office. Of course, giving them to an Animal Shelter is another great idea.

My Neighbor brought over a bag full of these, she got them when she had her dogs groomed.. I made cute scrappy quilts for her sweet little fur balls.. I cut them to managable sizes and had fun sewing them together... just use your imagination and have fun...

I'm trying to remember what they are called, but I've made my hubby some "skull caps" out of fabrics like that. It's the fabric that fits between his head and the helmet. I like it because they are washable and prevent stinky head and helmet. I went to a bike shop and they were selling them for approx. $14. I made one for about a dollar.
I bought one on sale half price, deconstructed it, and made a pattern. |
I wonder if they were meant to be made into dog bandanas?
|
Wash first and then lay them out and decide.
|
Use it to make a donation quilt for a child. What fun to have a quilt with all sorts of fabric on it! A kid would love that!
