Thrift Store find
Today I found an unfinished quilt top for $15. It's a Lee Ward Orchid quilt. It doesn't have any tears, the applique work is fantastic. I'll have to add borders to make it queen size (scallops maybe??). The top has never been washed and still has the quilting lines stamped on the muslin.
The only link I could find online to the pattern is this one: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...applique-quilt |
I envy you - it's lovely. I vote for scalloped border, since it's such a romantic pattern.

Lucky you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It does my heart good to see a fellow quilter has found a masterpiece UFO that they will finish. What a find!
Congratulations! Happy it has found a good home! Usually when you find a vintage top like that, the applique is funky. So glad you found it. It's a beautiful quilt top!
Can't wait to see the finished quilt. Wonderful find!
Great find! Lucky you and lucky for the quilt..
Please post a photo? I'd love to see it! :)
Before you go crazy and invest a lot of time finishing the quilt, wash it first. I purchased a baby quilt that you could see the lines for cross stitch. A year later and many many washes, the quilt now belongs to the dog. The marks never did come out. Good luck with yours.

That's beautiful!!! I like the idea of scalloped borders. don't forget to post a pic when you finish it.
That is so beautiful, I would not care if the quilting marks came out or not!! BTW, in my experience they never do.
What a wonderful find. Enjoy your treasure.
It's lovely! I have the greatest time refurbishing older quilts - some can be so challenging! This one is marvelous!
Great score!!
Oh my, what a treasure you have! I hope you enjoy finishing it up. Will you be hand quilting it?
I used to shop LeeWards all the time...the main office/warehouse was in Elgin, IL. I vaguely remember this quilt...it was before I started quilting.
My Mom made a couple of shift dresses in the 60-early 70's with applique borders...She had one that was tulips...wish I still had those. I still have the cross-stitched baby quilts that Mom and my Gt. Aunt made for my 34 year old son... |

You have a beautiful treasure.. I'm so happy for you!
I have been fortunate to find a few "scrappy" quilt tops in thrift stores, and find them so much fun that I've begun collecting them... just the tops, so I can see the pretty handstitching on the back. They make my heart sing... |
I love Orchids and that is beautiful. Congrats on the lucky find. I vote for a scalloped border as well. Thanks for letting us se this.
Congrats! Your quilttop is lovely.....now hurry and finish it so we can see.
Why can"t I find buys like that!!
That is wonderful! My grandmother used to do that type of applique quilt in the 60's and 70's. Seeing yours brings back good memories.

Warning, with the age, the printed quilting pattern probably won't wash out. HOwever if it's quilted over the marks, the lines may not show too much. |
Lovely ... Lucky you ! & I second a scalloped border !
What a find! Please post a photo when you get the quilt finished.
