rsOur golden panics with thundetorms, fireworks and sounds of gun shots. We have had to use up to 10mgm of valium at times without much success. This was after Rescue Remedy and a stronger tranquilizer for dogs. Even if she thinks a storm is coming she starts pacing, panting, looking for a place to hide and scratching the carpets. This summer we have had a zillion (it seems)thunder storms, usually at night, lasting hours! 2 weeks ago I bought her a Thunder Shirt)www.thundershirt.com. Last Saturday we had major storms all day. When we heard about the forecast we put the shirt on Lucy. OMG....First of all she loved wearing it. Sort of pranced around like, "look at me in my new outfit!" The storms started, no pacing, no panting, no scratching the carpet or looking for a place to hide. We could not believe it! It is a miracle. Yesterday, storms all day....no problem. I was so sure it would not work. Was I ever wrong. If you have a dog that is anxious........get one. You will be amazed!

I never heard of that. I'll have to look them up.

Very cool. Looks kind of like the weighted blankets that are used for some children with autisim and other sensory issues.

Wish they had them for cats...

My doggie day care recommends them also. They say be sure to put it on early enough so that the dog doesn't begin to associate the shirt with thunder.

My litle girl is happy laying in the bathtub for now. She is a better predictor than the weatherman.

We had the same problem, but with our Ciahuahua. He panics at the first sound of thunder. We'll have to look into the thunder shirt.

Pictures, pictures. We want pictures! I'll bet she is just too cute for words in her thunder skirt ;)

We had the same thing with our rescued 5 year old Shih Tzu female dog,

I got some unscented fabric softner sheets and rub on the back of her neck and now she loves the storms

try it, very in expensive (be sure to get the unscented ones)

My daughter's dog Zoey(a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) wears her thundershirt in the car as she is a very anxious traveller. It has helped greatly and the whining and howling has also stopped.

I read about these and tried wrapping my bassett in an ace wrap one day when she was driving me nuts because of the storms. She did seem calmer I had forgotten till I read this post, off to order one now!

I tell everyone bout thundershirts! My Maggie has one works well unless storm is severe then I use thundershirt and take edge of sheet and wrap around her middle it helps!!

I had a rescued german shepherd that was terrified of that kind of stuff too.....nothing seemed to help except sittin in the floor with her, holding her......bet that might have been good for her too......lost her a few years ago with a massive stroke.

I foster Shar Pei and Thunder Shirts are recommended for a variety of anxiety and separation issues

I bought the shirt a couple of months ago,and I'm disappointed.. It did not work for Socrates.. I'm going to continue using it with the hope that it will work.. I have been using Benadryl, which calms him a bit.. and I've been trying to distract, and exhaust him by playing We have been having some wicked storms.. The concept of the shirt makes sense..

Helps with separation anxiety, does it? That's something I would like to try on my dog. She's ok with noises, thunder, vacuum, etc., but let me walk outside for the mail and I come back to a panting anxious dog. I can't even weed the front yard with only a door in between us where she can see me completely!

Oh, she is stylin' in her thunder shirt. What a pretty girl! It's heartbreaking to watch them suffer so during storms, so I'm so glad you found a solution!
