Tiara and Sweet 16 users...

I am practicing on my new Babylock Tiara and am loving it. I have a question for users regarding tension, I am practicing on a muslin sample that I want to use blue thread in the bobbin and beige on top. I got the tensions set good and start out fine, but as I am sewing, I get those blue dots showing on the top. Do you think I need more adjusting? or am sewing faster and causing the bobbin thread to show? I've watched the webinar on Handi-quilter site and they suggest I use the same color on top and bottom, to eliminate the dots from showing. Am I never going to be able to quilt with 2 different colors in the bobbin and on the quit top???

No help but interested to know also.

When you FMQ, you are moving the fabric around and this is changing the amount of tension on the two threads. Unless you have a machine that can achieve and keep a perfectly balanced tension (some can, but most cannot) and you are sufficiently proficient at FMQ that you maintain and sustain perfect movement, I think it is next to impossible to use two colors without getting some dots on one side or the other here and there.

What others have mentioned, though, is that (probably depending somewhat on the batting you use) the dots disappear with the first washing as everything in the quilt, including the threads, adjust to each other. What you may want to do is take one of your practice swatches with dots, bind it, and wash it to see if the dots disappear.

Have been doing some research and it seems that the majority recommendation for bobbins is using Superior Threads "Bottom Line". Have any Tiara or Sweet 16 users tried using this thread, now I'm off to buy some and try it.

Do you still love your Tiara?

I am a new owner of a Babylock Tiara and I love it. I have been using Superior Threads for many years and am now anxious to use them on my new Tiara. I have used the prewound SuperBobs which is The Bottom Line thread in the machine and it works great. I have friends who have the Sweet Sixteen and use The Bottom Line as well with great success.

My DH has been after me to buy a Tiara or Sweet 16 but I resist because of the price. I'm interested to know what you like about your machines other then the obvious 16". Do you have the stitch regulator with it?

I have ordered the stitch regular, but haven't received it yet. I also ordered the table extension, the spool adapter, and the open foot. All should arrive by the end of the week. I'll report back after the weekend when I can play all day!!
