I've been hesitating, but you all have convinced me: I'm going to take all my lovely fabrics that are crammed in boxes because I have been unable to clear the Horror Room enough to get them in there, and instead line my hallway with shallow shelves and create a Fabric Petting Zoo! If word gets out I may have to charge admission--payable in fabric, of course.

i am Sondra and I too am a fabric fondler. I absolutely cannot walk into any store with fondling the fabric whether it is clothing, towels or fabric on bolts!!

Hello, my name is Gina, and I am a fabric fondler.

My husband caught me hugging my sewing machine, he knows we are nuts! But I love my sewing machine and it also loves me, especially if I keep feeding it expensive thread and fabric!

lfw045 01-28-2013 06:50 AM

I was never a fabric fondler until I happened onto this message board a few years ago and lo and behold I became a fabric fondler. Problem is, I just don't fondle quilting fabric, recently I have gotten back into constructing garments and now I even fondle that fabric too.....wo is me...roflmao!

Hi, I'm Carolynn, and I'm a fabric fondler and fabric collector. Sometimes I control my collecting, but once I buy the next new fabrics election, my life becomes unmanageable. When my stash collecting ramps up, I run out of storage space.

about 3 months ago, I decided to "manage" my quilting obsession by substituting needlepoint for some of my quilting. So now I'm building a needlepoint canvas and embroidery thread stash. I've also begun mixing my addictions by creating wall hangings that combine my needlepoint with quilting. The results are great and I'm having a wonderful time with my two obsessions.

topstitch 01-28-2013 08:27 AM

I'm not there yet. Sooooo----I am totally innocent, I have never fondled fabric in my life.

Knitette 01-28-2013 08:29 AM

This affliction is international...............it's been 18 hours since my last fondle and I've developed a tic. Please help.

Sierra 01-28-2013 08:32 AM

Hi, my name is Sierra. I not only am a fabric fondler, but I have involved my grandchildren, males and females.

Sierra 01-28-2013 08:35 AM

Topstitch, if you joined this board in 2011 and are still not a fabric fondler I think you should go into some sort of deep therapy! Or maybe skip that and just spend more time with your fabric.

memepat 01-28-2013 08:39 AM

Hi may name is Pat and not only am I a fondler, I can't resist not taking with me. I think I am hopeless.

JanTx 01-28-2013 09:21 AM

I finished a quilt that will be gifted in May. It was hanging on a rocker in my living room, but .. everytime I passed it I petted it so I moved it so there's won't be a grubby spot when it's gifted! My name is Jan and I'm definately a fabric fondler.

My name is Roberta, I am a fabric fondler, and my friendship group is called : The Fantastic Fabric Fondlers. There are four of us now. We meet twice monthly and have lots of fun.... If we do nothing else, we fondle our fabric and make plans to use it in some wonderful project.

Lizzytish 01-28-2013 11:33 AM

Please please lock me away with my fabric and sewing needs. My name is Liz and I am in big trouble.....

aeble 01-28-2013 11:53 AM

Me too. I even got spotted a couple of years ago at the Creativ Festival (a show for all kinds of creative hobbies) petting fabric. I had just purchased some amazing Japanese prints and while I was waiting for my ride, I grabbed a seat and couldn't resist petting the fabric. A woman walking past stopped to comment.

MadQuilter 01-28-2013 12:46 PM

When I get grumpy here's what my DH tells me: "Honey, go to your room and pet your fabric!" So fondling fabric is a therepy. Who needs therapy? Nutty people - muuuhaha.

Eliebelle 01-28-2013 02:15 PM

Yes, I confess that I am a fabric fondler, and therefore, a fabriholic. My husband doesn't understand, but is grateful that I only have one addiction.

AuntieD 01-28-2013 02:27 PM

Oh my, I thought it was just me!!

oldquilter 01-28-2013 02:50 PM

OMG, I am laughing so hard, and YEP, I am so a fabric fondler. Also an addict:)

KLTQuilts 01-28-2013 03:15 PM

Excuse me - - I'm guilty - I am a fabric fondler & dreamer, too!!!

AlienQuilter 01-28-2013 03:16 PM

I too am guilty of fondling fabric especially at Joann's. They have all these big bolts of minkee type fabric and I just have to put my paws on them.

When I was a teenager, my Aunt helped me make 3 quilts. One I bought tiger striped flannel for the backing. Everytime my best friend came over she would grab my quilt and pet it. So, when she got married, I gave her the quilt.

Several years ago, I gave my youngest a quilt for his 17th birthday. It was backed in Minkee and to this day, he still wraps himself up in that quilt and I have even caught him petting it! It's so good to see someone love something you make them.

nstitches4u 01-28-2013 03:16 PM

My name is Norma and I am a fabric fondler. I have to pet my fabric and wait for it to tell me what it wants to become.

Furball 01-28-2013 03:19 PM

I'm a fabric fondler and my LQS uses it against me...

I walk in and they show me the new stuff that just arrived. I'm feeling strong and resisting the urge to buy. Then they say "Just feel this one." So the three of us are fondling the most silky of cottons. As I paid, they said they knew they had me at the first touch.

I believe you mentioned you knew what xanax was? I actually run a home for wayward fabrics, come over and they will ease your distress, they love being fondled!

Halo 01-28-2013 08:28 PM

Hi, I am another Linda with the same problem. With so many Linda's in this circle, could it be the name that is causing the problem? So maybe it is our parents fault we have this problem. Whenever My DD#1 asks me to go to a clothing store, she asks if I would like to go fondle fabric as she needs a new outfit. I have as much as bumped into some one just so I can put my hand on their shoulder or arm just to touch the fabric. Thought I was strange, but now think it is cause my name is Linda.

ctipton 01-28-2013 09:27 PM

Last week I talked a Dr at work into giving me the shirt off his back (it was not too hard to do as he didn't like it much and his wife kept putting it back in his wardrobe so he kept wearing it). It was a tartan.

nancia 01-29-2013 01:04 AM

hello. my name is nancia and i have been brought up on charges of soliciting with intent to purchase, and excessive fondling in public. it will go on my permanent record if i am convicted. i am not allowed in 3 fabric stores in pennsylvania, and one in ohio. fabric fondlers aren't evil, we just love fabric, we'd never hurt the fabric, we love it, don't you understand?? i may be on the fabric molesters watch list and be banned from living within 500 feet of a lqs. when did my life press toward the dark side? i hst-itate to even look at pre-cuts-- so little, so sweet. and in the altogether. please! can't someone help me? i may have to rotary the threads that bind me to my addiction ! help

HI I love you guys. You are a lot like me. I have a piece of material that has an ugly print that I can't use just because I love the way it feels. It lays on a trunk in the sewing room and I fondle it nearly day.

roserips 01-29-2013 11:29 AM

Hello my name is Elayne and I have been a fabric fondle r all my life. I love the textures and weights and colors of fabric. Some fabrics actually call to me from across the store. I will always love to fondle fabric but I am not a true collector I love to create with it then go on to another project.

jojo47 02-28-2013 08:20 PM

LOL! I'm glad to be in such great company!:)

pyffer3 02-28-2013 08:42 PM

Hello, my name is Terina, and I am a fabric fondler too. I didn't know it was a disease until I read this thread! LOL Everywhere I go I "finger" the fabric and let it speak to me. My daughter gave me a bag of old clothes of hers and I went through it just touching the fabrics (she has excellent taste in clothes) and deciding if I could use in in quilting! I am still relatively new so my "stash" isn't like some of the pics of others on this board, but I have it sorted into baskets for projects and I have 1 basket with 3 fabrics I don't want to cut, because it just feels so smooth and good!
No hope.....just gonna have to keep fondling until I get it right!

I was a rural mail carrier for 30 yrs and part of that time I had a women on my route that had an on line sewing business. so about once a week when I would get to her mail box there would be a large bag hanging on the box with her scraps in it. I could hardly wait to get home dump them all out on the couch and just look and fondle.

I think this is just fabulous! So cool that she would leave her scraps out for you!

I do buy fabric online, from etsy, and from ladies here on the QB. When I get a squishy in the mail, I can't wait to rip it open and feel what I have bought. Whaen I buy fabric at LQS, as soon as I get home I have to dump everything out and fondle it because I restrained myself (somewhat) at the store. Is there anything in the world nicer than fabric? I think not.
