That's "loop lift." I still can't find my 117.... But on most vintage Kenmores, there's a 5-sided screw head underneath the machine, slightly right of center. You won't be able to find a 5-sided wrench, but I use a long, size 7 mm socket. Loosen that screw, make the adjustment, then tighten it back up.
