Adjusting the bobbin tension for different threads and stitches it can be frustrating to get back to the regular setting. I bought an extra bobbin case to test different tensions. I keep the one in my machine at the same setting, never changing it so it always set where it's suppose to be. I don't have the worry of having made a mess of the bobbin tension.

I don't like changing the tension on my bobbin :shock: I did 1 time and couldn't get it back . I ended up taking it to the shop and having them do it . So do you mark your bobbins you change the tension on ? Annie

I am making a Downy Quilt and they request that you heavily machine quilt it. A friend mentioned that I should loosen the tension on my machine to do that. Is that the top thread or should I be adjusting the bobbin tension as well? I've never done that.

No I don't mark the extra bobbin case, I just adjust it until it works for what I want it to sew. I have played around adjusting it enough to know how too loose a bobbin tension sews and how too tight a bobbin tension sews.

I have heard of that before and thought about purchasing a second one...never have the $50 - $75 for it :( :-o

That's expensive for just the bobbin holder. None of the brands I have cost over $10. The Bernina case is about $18. I don't know about the brand new models.

I have the Brother EX660 and SQ9000 Top load bobbins. The EX660's bobbin case was $35 to $50 so I still don't have one for it.

I have one top loading machine but there is no way to adjust the tension on it that I know of, It doesn't have a case, just slots to run the thread through. I leave one slot or both empty for looser tension.

One is the Elna Quilter's Dream, haven't priced it in 6 years or so.
The other I would be interested in a second bobbin case is the HQ16.

If the bottom is bunching up I think it is the to tension you need to adjust.
