I was having the same problem yesterday with some strip quilt blocks. Even had to unsew two of them because the bottom block was barely caught and the top one had a perfect 1/4" seam. I have the 1/4" foot with the guide on it. I also noticed that because of the many seams in my blocks it made my fabric want to go left. Thanks for the tip!!!

So please explain how pushing out just the bottom fabric would solve this problem? Doesn't that cause the seam allowance on the bottom piece to be a full 1/4" and the top one is the only one that would get the 'scant' measurement? True the little bit peekig out from under works......but I'm still wondering "how and where" to hit a sewing foot with a hammer?
