When hand pieceing/quilting/appliqueing cut your thread approx. 18 inches long. Thread you needle first then cut. If you are right handed, tie the knot in the end you just cut. If you are left handed, tie the knot in the end you threaded through the eye of the needle.

Interesting Just curious as to why being left or right handed makes a difference-any idea?

It is because of the way the thread is twisted when it is made.
