Titanium needeles

I just purchased some titanium sewing machine needles at Joaan's. Has anyone ever used them? Are they worth the additional cost? What's the big difference between them and the regular type needles?

I've just bought my first packet after reading such good reviews on this forum. Will keep watching to see what others say.

Thank you ladies. Just ordered some from Superior. Can't wait to try them.

Tartan, I watched all of Dr Bob's videos. Best hour I ever spent. Thanks for the educational recommendation.

I use them and I can tell the difference. They do last longer, even when paper piecing.

i'll be watching this thread for answers.

The quilting shops here tend to say not to use them. They say it is better if a needle breaks if something happens rather than the machine "shaft"/I think they called it. Say it can do more damage to machine.

Got a link from a blog I visited today & found out that my favorite brand of needles, Schmetz, makes titanium topstitch needles, too. For some reason, they call them "Gold Embroidery" needles.
But it seems to be the same thing as the Organ needles -- elongated eye, wider shank, slightly rounded tip, titanium coated. JAF sells them in sizes 75/11 and 90/14. I'm almost out of needles as it is, so I think I'll try to order a couple packs of these to give them a try. Partly I'm always a sucker for the underdog, but I've also had a lot of positive experiences with Schmetz needles over the 25+ years that I've been sewing & quilting and I trust them to make a quality needle.

Just thought I'd share my "find" with other JAF shoppers. Can't beat 50% off a pack of needles that already only costs $6.99 (that's $3.50!!!) and will last for 3-8x as long! I was challenged by an online "friend" to do a stitch sampler with a few different types of needles and think that will be my project for Memorial Day weekend. So many different opinions out there about what type of needle is the "best" for quilting, it would be good to investigate for myself. :)
