Too big! Now what?
 

My DDIL asked for a quilted tree skirt. I found a beautiful diamond log cabin on the board and guessed at the measurements. Bad idea! The tree skirt ended up being a hexagon 60" wide x 68" at the points. It is too big for a tree skirt, too big for a lap quilt and not big enough and wrong shape for a bed. What now?

Can you post a pic? That way someone might be able to come up with a way to slice and rearrange the pattern.

How about adding enough background to square it up add borders and make it a bed quilt? It could be like a medallion in the middle. Ann in TN

Can you use it for a table topper? I have the pattern for the diamond log cabin. It's a gorgeous table topper

Just the right size for a lap quilt! I love them a little bigger : )

How old is your DDIL?
Are there children yet in the family?
If she has, say, more than three kids, you and she both may find that a really big tree skirt might be just the thing for all the gifts kids receive at Christmas in most households!

And when the tree is first decorated and is without many packages under it, maybe a small village scene, a creche, or a miniature train set could be placed on it.

My mom's was made large like this on purpose, as she puts her tree on the top of a small table. The skirt drapes down over the table and on to the floor. It works for her!

the one i made my daughter was about that size- and perfect! they always put up a large tree and by the time it goes up over the tree stand (and can be gathered a bit up there if needed- it comes out to just barely the outer rim of the bottom tree branches.
it would also make a good table cloth- or square it up (add corners) to make it a bed quilt.

you can always add triangles around it to make it square. let the Hexagon float.
I made this one and it could be enlarged that way.
